Human beings are very complex creatures. Yet, it seems that individuals carry a one-sided image of themselves - they pretend to be one-dimensional. They try to repress their minority traits and encourage tendencies to be aggressive.
"The Great Decider" George W. Bush, upon "winning" the election by 48% of the electorate voting against him, actually made the idiotic remark that the American people had given him a mandate. Thus, this limited self-image opened a Pandora's Box. All cultures, all societies, all religions, tend to encourage some human traits and belittle others. When taken literally, this can cause untold misery.
And that brings us to Bush and his feckless group of fanatics who have mismanaged this stupid, immoral Iraq war, with our military stretched to the breaking point. Our Constitution is being trampled upon by this "Compassionate Conservative" administration, reducing our democracy to a near-fascist state [think about illegal surveillance of Americans]. The economy is a disaster for all but the wealthiest [think greed] - the middle class is getting screwed [think outsourcing] - the Big Easy is still in shambles one year after Hurricane Katrina [think apathy] - our borders are porous and our ports cannot adequately check cargo [think ineffectiveness] - global warming is looming [think greed, apathy, and stupidity] - we are addicted to foreign oil [think indifference] - and Bush and his neocons are itching to start another conflict in the Middle East. On top of all this, we are being subjected to fear-mongering and smear tactics to distract us from the truth - and forced to listen to mean-spirited lies, with "stay the course" being rammed down our collective throats.
What is causing all the horror in the world? - fear - different ideologies - fanatical fundamentalists - lost moral compass - racism - poverty - greed - and how about apathy - ignorance - abuse of power - political games??? Oh, YES, all of these and much more!
We're in a battle for the future of civilization. Given time, the Big Lie of this administration may just turn on itself. The majority of Americans now believe the Iraq war is wrong. It has increased the risk of terrorism . The Big Lie just might be coming apart. And, when Bush turns the metaphor "war on terror" into a national policy, he not only admits he misunderstands what is going on, he invades Iraq because he believes he needs a war. Now, it would appear that he and his vice president are planning a war against Iran. Heaven help us!
We were so much smarter as a society years ago.
With love, hope, and some common sense on our side, we will overcome adversity.
New book, "State of Denial,"................
By Bob Woodward. On July 10, 2001 CIA Director George Tenet and his counterterrism head Cofer Black told then-national security adviser Condoleezza Rice of a likely attack on the US by Bin Laden. Woodward writes that Rice was polite, but "They felt the brushoff." On Iraq, Woodward believes the White House and Pentagon are hiding the truth by classifying attack statistics as secret."The president's national security adviser understandably wanted to win the 2006 congressional elections. Having the president answer questions about Iraq was conspicuously inconsistent with that goal. The strategy was denial. With all Bush's upbeat talk and optimism, he had not told the American public the truth about what Iraq had become." Read this book!!!!
