Right to die. . .

Do you want the Bush brothers to make the call for you?
This writer votes, no.
Judge Stanley F. Birch, Jr., on the Terri Schiavo case, "The legislative and executive branches of our government have acted in a manner demonstrably at odds with our Founding Fathers' blueprint for the governance of a free people - our Constitution."

What is "The Da Vinci Code" about? . .

The book is about what Jesus gave his kids for Christmas. [:-0

Great book. . .

"Collapse" by Jared Diamond. The book tells us how some civilizations in effect committed suicide by plundering their environments. A new report by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, tells us that two-thirds of the planet's resources, from energy sources to fresh water and clean air have been depleted or polluted the past 50 years. Global warming is occurring every day. We need to sign the Kyoto Treaty. The days dwindle down to a precious few. All our bright tomorrows depend on our actions today.

This just in. . .

OJ Simpson & Robert Blake plan to sponsor a charity golf tourney for, "Children Without Mothers."

Guns. . .

As we all know, guns don't kill people. So it remains a mystery how a 16 year old boy killed 10 people in Red Lake, Minnesota. The NRA says we need to arm some teachers. Molly Ivins - " I am not anti-gun. I'm pro-knife. Consider the merits of the knife. In the first place, you have to catch up with someone in order to stab him. A general substitution of knives for guns would promote physical fitness. We'd turn into a whole nation of great runners. Plus, knives don't ricochet. And people are seldom killed while cleaning their knives."

NY Times editorial. . .

"Let's be clear about this: Any prisoner of the United States is protected by American values. That cannot be changed by sending him to another country and pretending not to notice that he's being tortured." In America, the prisoner has rights.

Bigotry. . .

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity."
Ann Coulter. [:-{

New book. . .

"The End of Poverty" by Jeffery Sachs; "The nearly $500 billion that the US will spend this year on the military will never buy lasting peace if the US continues to spend only 1/30 of that. . . to address the plight of the poor." " More than 8 million people around the world die each year because they are too poor to stay alive."

The World Bank estimates that 1.1 billion people live in extreme poverty. The Institute of Medicine reported that 18,000 Americans die unnecessarily each year as a result of not having health insurance. "Is not Mankind our business?" - Charles Dickens.

You've Got Mail. . .

Dear Bubbles, Only if he is alone. [:-) Signed, Jerry in Lakewood.

Dwight D. Eisenhower. . .

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

The woman America loves to hate. . .

Jane Fonda has written a new book, "My Life So Far." She admits she had a lapse in judgment posing for photos on North Vietnamese artillery. Jane was wrong, she made a mistake. We left Viet Nam and communism did not conquer the world. Today we trade with Viet Nam. After all these years, no one has apologized for the mistake of sending 58,000 GIs to their deaths.

IRS help. . .

What we fail to appreciate is that there is no 'suitable' place to bury nuclear waste.
